Doors and Carpet (day 28)

This past week Bryan's parents were able to come help hang doors and paint them. In these photos the doors are not painted yet. They are a brighter white now. But they had to be taken down to paint and we left them off for the carpet guys. Carpet was put in yesterday and today. Tomorrow is move day!!! Of course we still need baseboards and framing, but we are ready to live in our house.

Painted

We have been so blessed with help from our parents with this Reno; labor and babysitting wise. On Friday night I went up to Blairmore after the kids went to bed. On Saturday Bryan and I primed the entire basement, and upstairs where new drywall was put up. I came home Saturday night so my parents could go up to Calgary on Sunday. But Bryan's parents went out on Sunday and helped to actually paint the entire basement! I'm so glad he continued to have help. It was a lot to paint! I am also incredibly grateful for the paint sprayer Bryan's dad let us use. It cut the time down a lot! We are (meaning Bryan and his dad are) trying to get the doors in the basement hung and painted before carpet comes on Thursday the 21st. We were lucky to get it moved back a couple of days to allow for paint to dry completely and try to hang the doors. It's looking great! I can't wait to see it with carpet and trim!

This is the funny extra part of a bedroom that we closed off and made into a storage room. We didn't drywall it, since it is just a storage room. Seeing it painted makes me so much more happy that we chose to drywall instead of just paint all of the wood panelling.

Busy Work

I don't have much to show this time... Ok, nothing to show. But busy things have been happening. I am still in lethbridge with the kids. But Bryan is living in our renovation and working in the pass 8-5 mon-fri. He is a busy man who comes home just to do more work. 

This week we have ordered our kitchen cabinets! Woohoo! I am so excited!

We also got cement to fill the areas that were jack hammered when we made a new doorway.

We bought all of our doors for the basement! Even the closet doors (no handles yet)

Painting starts this weekend!!!!

Carpet was originally coming on Monday the 18th. But luckily that could be moved to the 21st so there is a bit more time to paint (since drywall took a bit longer than anticipated- it's not a Reno without a set back, and luckily this was very minor)

We also picked out a stain to refinish the wood floors upstairs: a pretty medium tone (I like darker, but I compromised). It will look great. Hopefully I will have paint and carpet and door pictures next time. Floor boards will be the last to come in the basement.

On a side note, we discovered raspberry bushes in our yard last weekend and I am so excited!

We still have another coat of drywall mud to go up, and a few touch up in the pantry and girl's room. The drywall is all up though, and looking awesome!

I am so happy we decided to contract out the drywall! It took so much time. But it looks sooo much better. 

Once the mudding is complete, we will paint. Then carpet for the basement arrives and will be installed on the 18th.

One Project Down... A million to go (day 9)

Bryan went back to Blairmore on Friday to finish prepping for the drywall coming on Tuesday and to do a few other little projects. 

We are done what we will be doing in the downstairs bathroom for now. One day it will get a complete over haul, but for now the changes Bryan has made will work. 

I wish we had the time and money to renovate every room, but it's the bathroom that won't get used much and it works perfectly well, so it's on the lower end of our project list. Going from from dark brown everything, and adding a new mirror and light over the sink , makes the space so much brighter and better. 

It feels good to have one thing on our to-do list checked off.

Framing! (Day 3 and 5)

Here are pictures of all the framework done in the basement.

They are now framed-in to be normal heights! Woohoo!

The funny little "extra" room with no hallway door, now has an entrance from the hall and is closed off from the bedroom to make a storage room.

And the under the stairs storage is framed too :)
