Bye-bye Wall (Day 4)

This wall with the heater and cabinets on it...

Now looks like this...

Wow!!! It looks so much better!!! We can now see the front door and front window from the kitchen!

The amazing men have also gotten
everything framed in the basement and it is ready (other than a little bit of cement that needs to be jack hammered out of the closet and storage room doorway) for drywall!!! I don't have those pictures yet since I am just going off of what Bryan has sent me. But it looks awesome via video chat! I am so excited to get more done and move out to Blairmore with the kids!!

Day Two

I felt a lot less productive today, but I was still busy. I needed to unpack a few things and do a lot of laundry.

I did help remove all framing around basement doors (please never glue that stuff on! It is evil to remove- just do the right thing and use a nail gun).

Bryan removed the linoleum from the laundry room so we can paint the floor in there. (Sorry, no before and after photos- I hadn't planned on doing anything in this room)

Bryan also took out the ugly built in that was under the stairs

We got a gigantic, beast of a freezer
out of the basement too. Note: if you buy a house with an antique freezer that you don't plan to keep, make sure you get the previous owners to remove it. I think we narrowly missed a few serious injuries and hernias while moving that thing.

My dad came back out and we trimmed the gigantic trees in the yard- still way too big for my liking, but they will have to stay for awhile.

We got bars out of the bay window which looks so much better!

Then I left to watch the kids while Bryan and my dad do a lot of framing the basement in preparation for the drywaller who comes on aug 5th.

My dad and Bryan got some pannelling off to plan for moving some electrical stuff and framing in a door to our new storage room.

End of day 2... And a huge truck load of garbage to take to the dump tomorrow!

Day One

We took possession of or house on Friday, and with the help of Bryan's mom watching our kiddos on Saturday and my parents coming to Blairmore with us, we were able to get pretty much everything moved out to our garage until the basement Reno is done and I move out there with the kids. We are hoping that will happen mid-late august, but definitely before Jackson starts kindergarten.

Day 1 of Reno's

What we got accomplished:
-Moving everything out of my parents garage and into our house!
-Pulled up the living room carpet to discover amazing hardwood! So grateful Bryan has worked 2 summers refinishing wood floors so he can do ours now.

- discovered the built-in china cabinet (at the back of the dinning room) had a false back wall and is really twice as deep as we thought. Now it will become a (small) walk in pantry!

At this point my parents went back to lethbridge so my mom could watch the Kids on Sunday, while I stayed in Blairmore to help with more demo.

That night Bryan and I were able to get all  of the carpet and underlay out of the basement; good riddance ugly red and shaggy blue carpet! (Hello cement)

Possession Day!

On July 25, 2014 we officially became home owners! It has been a whirl wind of excitement and emotion. But I am so beyond grateful for this opportunity. While trudging through dental school it seemed this day would never happen.
We signed the papers at 9:30 with the lawyer the morning of possession, did a walk through at 10:00 and were handed the keys at noon!
Time to start demolition!
